Stuck in a Ditch

Falling Into a Rut

Stuck in a Ditch

There comes a point in life where we come to a crossroad and not sure which road we should take. The stakes are high and the pressure is on. If I make the wrong choice then what happens? Will I fail? Will I be happy?

These are the types of questions that we experience when left with a choice.

At this point in most people’s lives the road taken is often the easy trail. The trail that will keep them safe because all their friends are doing it and it only seems what is most natural.

DON’T FALL FOR IT!! It’s a trap!

Have you ever noticed that most people tend to follow the same trend as everyone else? Since the path has already been created, it seems easiest to just follow the path already established.

But you don’t have to be part of what most people are doing. We are incredible beings, each with our own set of skills and personalities. As long as you follow someone else, you will never reach your full potential.

Two Roads..

In order to understand where you are at in your life and evaluate yourself, you must be willing to consider all the options on the table. There are two basic choices to make in life,

Act as everyone else does in order to be someone you are not

Be independent and go down your own path

Robert Frost wrote a great poem that you may have heard of or read. The poem is entitled “The Road Not Taken” and it reads:

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

You have a choice… To either lead or follow.

But if you ever hope to achieve dreams of your own, rather than someone else’s, then you must get out of the rut and follow your own path.

Leader or a Follower?

You may have heard the saying by Thomas Paine, “Lead, follow or get out of the way.” You can either lead by example, follow in the footsteps of others, or sit back and let life unfold without you.

It is important to note that when a decision is made in your life, especially an important one, will be predicated on whether you choose to lead or to follow.

Following is easy because anyone can do it, but it takes guts to lead yourself down the untrodden path of life.

When you notice yourself following what your friends or family wants to do, stop and ask yourself if this is what YOU truly want to do. Decide if it is in alignment with your core values and who you are.

This doesn’t mean to not ever do anything other people do, but make the decision knowing that you truly desire whatever it is you are seeking.

Break Free From the Chains of Society

Life is virtually one big mind game and you need to figure out how to win.

In order to gain your independence from the hold of reality, you must see yourself as the person you want to be. Find your inner self and release it to the world.

You basically get what you put in. If you engage your energy into the wrong things then you may fall into the trap that almost everyone else falls into.

Discover what defines you and focus your attention on making yourself better and personal growth.

There are always things that you can do to make yourself better. But know that it will require a lot of time and effort in order to make it happen.

Life isn’t easy and it’s up to you to decide whether you want to follow your own path or blindly follow the ones that have already been created.

“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

How to Break Free

When you find yourself stuck in a rut there are a few different ways to get out of the trap. Here are many ways that you can break free and maintain your independence:

  • Get out of your comfort zone

  • Spend time alone, in order to maintain stability

  • Meditate often

  • Be yourself

  • Set goals and make small strides to obtaining them

  • See the BIGGER picture by seeing your life in a 3rd person perspective

  • Live life on your terms and not anybody else’s

  • Confront and conquer your fears

  • AND MOST IMPORTANTLY Find your purpose and passion in life

There comes a point in your life where you decide if you are going to make the important decision to make your life your own or whether you decide to fall into the rut along with almost everyone else.

The choice is yours to make, but I know which path I choose :)

In what ways do/did you struggle getting out of the rut? How were you able to overcome these obstacles?

May infinite light shine upon you, revealing your path to eternal bliss. Remember, all the answers we seek are only found inside of us, so don’t be afraid to go within. Love and unity to you all <3
