I remember when I was younger and the idea of meditation popped into my mind. It seemed so boring and nothing that would ever be for me.
Who has time for meditation when you are busy doing more fun, engaging activities like playing video games and hanging out with friends? Not to mention sports, a job and girls!
Obviously, there’s no way I could have fit meditation into my busy schedule. Lol
Fast forward to college, I was bombarded with an array of homework that kept me gasping for air, but I was never quite able to catch that bit of air I needed.
This had been going on since I first came to college, but high school was a breeze. What gives??? Why was I struggling so much I thought to myself and what would be the best way to fix it?
I Decided to go Straight to the Problem
I learned from a hypnotist that came to our school to put on a show that you could use hypnosis to help people subconsciously fix things that are physically/mentally giving them problems.
Some things that it claimed to help with were:
- Improving your athletic abilities
- Quit smoking
- Lose weight
- Improve your memory
- Improve communication skills
“Wow!!” I thought to myself. Then it hit me…
That is the answer!
That’s how I would fix my problems I was having in school. I would use self-hypnosis to improve my memory and my ability to absorb information.
This soon led me to the continued practice of meditation.
The two are very similar but hypnosis is more a way to assist you with a subconscious problem that habitually burdens you, whereas mediation is a way to relax the body and mind, and get to the core of your inner self.
Either way, you can look at both of these things as a door to the subconscious.
So what happened once I found ‘my cure’ you ask?
Well over the course of the next year I began to realize what was most important to me. I gradually began to see exactly what I was passionate about and began looking into a way of pursing that.
I began to visualize what I wanted my future to look like so that I could attract the things into my life to make those things become a reality.
Although I still had a bit of problems in school I realized something…
I realized through all the struggles and all of the bullshit that had been piled on top of me over the years that I was special.
In fact, we are all special!
But that special gift that we have, some never discover it because they can’t see past the blinders that cover their eyes, shielding them of the direction that they should take.
We lose sight of what it means to be happy in a world predicated by a lust for material things.
We chase a job because of money; money that we can then use to buy material things that will make us look fancy and feel great.
But that feeling very quickly dissipates, leaving us with a void in our heart. But oftentimes we don’t know how to fix it so we continue seeking material things and money searching for the solution, but our problem only worsens.
What it did for me
It showed me the path that I am supposed to take. It brought forth the fears that were holding me back, that were keeping me from pursing my path. It unlocked something inside of me, something amazing and beautiful.
I was able to connect with my true inner-self, thus filling my heart with peace, love and happiness. My love and connection that I felt with everyone and everything grew like the plague. It gave me the inner peace within myself that some go through their whole lives never experiencing.
When I got to this point I began to bring things into my life to make my dreams come true. It gifted me with patience, and a spark of inspiration that exploded like an atomic bomb causing me to become obsessed with personal growth (which is a good thing, I might add).
In short, it dissolved the opinions and beliefs implanted on me by others. It gave me courage, direction and focus when I needed it most. And most importantly it changed my life’s path by realizing what I was truly passionate about and how I could use that passion to change the world.
I mean after all, I wouldn’t be writing this article (or any article for that matter) if I never began meditation.
It gave me freedom from the mental chains of society. Freedom…. Isn’t that what every man wants?
How Can it Help You?
Don’t just take my word for it, try it yourself.
But remember, like anything it takes time and persistent focused action in order for it to truly have an effect on you and change your life.
But you can use mediation for anything.
One of the best things that it is used for (especially in today’s society) is stress. When I practice meditation I first relax my body, one body part at a time, and then I go into my mind and zone out.
Sometimes I create an environment that I resonate with such as a forest, beach or valley and sometimes I imagine complete darkness/whiteness.
It all depends on your preference, so experiment and see what works for you.
There are also guided meditations that you can look up that will guide you through so you can focus your attention on something.
It is your life to live, but I can tell you from a personal experience that mediation has done more than change my life, it has molded me into a completely different person! It taught me more about myself than I ever learned the previous 20 years of my life.
Even though we think we know what we want our perception is often distorted and we live life not ever learning the reason why we came here.
Think of our bodies as antennas, when we meditate we are silencing our mind and letting the answer come to us. It’s really that simple!
Meditation is a very powerful tool that we can use to help us grow mentally, spiritually and even physically. But it will only work if you let it (YOU GOT THIS!! J)
So give it a try… What do you have to lose? 😉
Let me know in the comments below what experiences you have had with meditation and how it has impacted your life, or ways in which you would want to use it to improve your life if you have never meditated before.May infinite light shine upon you, revealing your path to eternal bliss. Remember, all the answers we seek are only found inside of us, so don’t be afraid to go within. Love and unity to you all <3
